Why I built it
Good gatherings stall on logistics: someone has to deal cards, keep secrets, count votes, or remember who said what. I wanted to see how much of that friction software could remove — so the people in the room spend their time talking to each other instead of managing the game.
The rule for every app: anyone at the table can join in seconds, from the phone already in their pocket.
The apps
- Impostor — every player secretly gets the same word, except one: the impostor. Players describe the word without giving it away and try to spot who’s bluffing. The app deals the words privately to each phone from a bank of more than 300.
- Werewolf — the classic social-deduction game with werewolves, a seer, a doctor, and villagers. The app helps balance roles for the group size, deals them in secret, guides the moderator through each night, and runs the votes.
- Lotería — Mexico’s classic Lotería, played on phones. Each player gets a board, the host calls the cards, and the app checks every “¡Lotería!” against the cards actually called — marking ahead earns a false alarm, not a win. Groups choose from five decks — the traditional one, plus Programming, Bible, Food, and Matrimonios, a deck for couples where a square is won only by guessing what your partner secretly answered — or paste a list to make their own. Teams and a running score carry across rounds, which makes it work for family nights, church groups, and events.
- Peticiones — a request exchange for groups and events. Everyone submits a personal request, anonymously if they prefer, and the app assigns each participant someone else’s request to support — no papers, no hat, no one seeing who wrote what.
- Pomodoro — a focus timer for study and work: set an intention, chain time blocks, and get a chime and background alarm (via Web Push) when a block ends. Every session lands in a time journal you can export to your calendar, and the screen stays on while the timer runs.
How it works
- Join by QR code or 6-digit code. The host’s screen shows a QR code and a short code; players scan or type it and are in. Players are signed in anonymously behind the scenes, so nobody creates an account.
- Real-time sync. Game state lives in Firebase Realtime Database, so every phone updates instantly when a role is dealt, a vote is cast, or a round ends. Each phone shows only its own secret word, role, or board.
- A shared rooms module. Lobbies, join flows, player lists, kicking, and generated animal avatars live in one reusable module, so a new game starts from a working multiplayer foundation instead of from scratch.
- Sessions clean up after themselves. Sessions expire after an hour, and session codes are claimed atomically so two groups never collide.
- Installable. It’s a progressive web app — open it once and add it to the home screen.
What it says about how I work
The same instinct drives my professional work: find the friction, then remove it with software that gets out of the way. Here the “users” are friends, families, and event groups — and the measure of success is that nobody notices the technology at all.
